Gourmet Gironde

Throughout the Gironde area there are a good number of highly acclaimed “starred” restaurants, as well as many less expensive restaurants and cafes offering excellent value set meals known as “Plat de Jours”. Tapas bars, restaurants with live jazz music, acoustic music, all kinds of music. Closer to home we have discovered some brilliant places to dine out.

Au Four et au Moulon in Marcillac, it's menu boasts many "gourmet" meals including the "magret de canard et ses mogettes" pictured here. Other resturants you might treat yourself to a visit are :

La Galerie in Blaye,

This fabulous restaurant / wine bar, offers an interesting mix of art, wine & tapas with a wonderfully friendly atmosphere, contempary setting and great service. There's always a great selection of wines decanted and ready for tasting - each one carefully selected. It's a wonderful opportunity to try a glass (or more) of fine wine, the wine selection stocked here is one of the best in the area. There's also regular music night's, all of which, add up to a recipe for a successful night out.

La Paillote de l'oasis @ Berson

During the summer, on warm evenings and within a cycle ride awayone, is one of our favourite places to eat - La Paillote, which offers outside eating with a BBQ style menu and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There's often "themed nights" which are very well attended - The spanish night with paella and live music and dancing was a great success - prior booking is recommended.

La Popote de l'Antiquaire @ Pugnac

A La Popote de l'Antiquaire  is a more traditional french resturant within a 10 mins drive at Pugnac. It is a very interesting place to eat as it doubles up as an antique shop in the mornings and afternoon - it's "plat de jour" always offers a tasty selection of food and with free wine included, it's really good value. This is a family run business and the family and staff are reknown for their warm welcomes.

 Eating In

Another popular thing some guests might like to consider is to visit one of the regular, local farmer’s markets. Nearly every village holds one at least once a week. It can be so rewarding to browse through all the different stalls for your own meal. Whether it’s a roti poulet (bar-q-q chicken) and salad or some fresh fish or sea food and rice or simply a tapas meal of bread, cheese and saussison. The local chateau is usually open to sell you a great bottle of wine to help make your meal really special. Blaye holds markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Bourg market is on Sunday mornings

There’s some fabulous food markets in Bordeaux, vibrant with colours, food aromas, images of large sea food platters squashed onto tables, between happy smiling people enjoying their food with their friends, sounds of laughter, live music, singing and dancing – everything bursting with life.
